Mr. R. K. Somany is the Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Sanitaryware & Industries Ltd. - a multi-locational and multi-product company and heads the high profile brand leaders in the sanitaryware field.

Mr. Somany was the first to bring in vitreous china technology to India in the 1960s and is an acknowledged authority in this field. He is widely traveled and has been instrumental in putting India on the export map for sanitaryware.

His expertise in the manufacture of sanitaryware has won him the prestigious fellowship by the Institute of Ceramics, U.K. He is a fellow of the British Institute of Management and a life fellow of All India Management Association. He holds prestigious memberships of international organizations – Emeritus Member of the American Ceramic Society, Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute of UK and Member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, UK (IOM³).

Mr. Somany helped the Indian Standards Institution (ISI), now named Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to develop quality standards for sanitaryware industry and is presently the convener of the Domestic Sanitary Appliances & Accessories Sub-committee, in addition to being a member of the several other Committees. He has been instrumental in aligning the Indian Standards with the European Standards wherein several special tests required for installation and load tests have been incorporated.

Mr. Somany has served many Federations/Councils/Chambers of Commerce as President/Chairman - to name a few, he was Chairman of Council of Indian Employers; President of Employers' Federation of India (EFI); President of The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM); President of PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry; member of Central Board of Trustees under the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), etc. etc.

Mr. Somany also takes keen interest in social activities - was President of Rotary Club of Delhi Midtown in 1980-81, President of Sangeet Kala Vihar and Vice President of Rajasthan Parishad.
